WHAT WE DO
- Education lies at the core of the MAFF’s mission. The foundation strives to improve access to quality education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We do this by collaborating with schools, NGOs, educational institutions, and well-wishers to collate donations and support such as books, pens, uniforms, scholarships, and awareness drives such as career guidance.
- Savings and financial literacy. MAFF recognizes the importance of financial literacy, and works to instill sound financial habits in children and their parents. Through workshops, mentorships, and partnerships with financial institutions, the foundation educates young minds on saving, budgeting, and making informed financial decisions, thereby empowering them to build a secure financial future.
- Health and sanitation. MAFF solicits and extends financial support to healthcare initiatives, promoting hygiene practices, and facilitating access to clean water and sanitation facilities. We acknowledge and believe that a healthy and well-nourished child is better prepared for opportunities such as education or business.
- Rural farming. MAFF recognizes the vital role of rural farming in ensuring food security and sustainable livelihoods. By implementing programs that enhance agricultural practices, provide training, and facilitating access to resources, we support rural farming communities, enabling them to achieve better yields and economic stability.
MWALIMU GUSTAVIO ABWANG
Mwalimu Gustavio Abwang was born in 1926 and passed on to be with the Lord in 1993 (67 years old). He ails from Adwir, Omoro sub-county, Alebtong district, the son of Mzee Georgie Omiji from the clan of Ober me Atek (a clan is an important societal unit in East Africa, comprising of related persons through birth, marriages and co-option).
'Mwalimu' is Swahili language word (the common language of East Africa) meaning 'Respectable Teacher'. Gustavio trained as a primary school teacher, where he rose in the ranks from classroom teacher to the headteacher position. He honourably retired from Uganda's education service while heading Abakuli Primary School, in Bata sub-county, Dokolo district. Before retirement, he served several schools such as Angwecibange Primary School in Dokolo town, Adwir Primary School in Omoro sub-county, Alebtong district, and Anwangi Primary School in Kwera sub-county, among others.
This foundation is a reflection and continuation of his legacy, love, and dedication to family and societal education. Through Mwalimu Abwang, formal education expanded within his family and the clan. Parents brought their children to his home to get educational discipline instilled in them, study in the schools he taught in and inspire the child to love education. Through Mwalimu Abwang, several children outside his immediate family as well, were supported and obtained formal education. Some of them lived and studied within his household, while he extended support to others through school fees and other scholastic materials.
MAFF therefore, builds upon this foundation to continue supporting individuals and families irrespective of their religious beliefs, gender, tribe or nationality to acquire a sustainable source of living. Also our support extends beyond just education but into all primary aspects of societal livelihoods.
